Well this week was awesome! Not quite as much success as the week in teaching lessons but still a lot of success! But you know how it goes.. when good things happen, bad things are sure to follow. It keeps me humble haha
Last P-Day I bought my very own machete, I named it Black Mamba. I would send a picture but I’m having a branch member sharpen it for me. I have had plenty of coconuts this week which is good. On Tuesday it rained soo much! It’s really hard to teach when it’s raining because people either aren’t home, or they are napping, or if they do let you teach you can’t hear anything because there is rain pounding on the tin roofs.
Well I had the worst night of my life this week. Actually two of the worst nights of my life. Tuesday night I am laying in bed about to fall asleep when Sister Calder jumps up and goes, “Something just ran across my face! Sorry!” And I didn’t really care, because I’m an awesome companion so I just laughed. So then I’m falling asleep and a mouse runs across my feet. And I know it’s a mouse because I remembered seeing one the night before run under our fridge. So I try to fall asleep because whatever.. its a mouse. But it keeps waking me up because it’s climbing all over the place, scratching things, running on things. So I was trying to ignore it and I fell asleep when I felt it walking on my hair.. that’s not okay. My bed is a safety zone and no mouses will be walking on it. And I was thinking of Katie the whole night and the dead mouse she found in Real Deals, that made it a little better I guess. So I just sat up tired and terrorized. Then I saw it climbing down the sheet hanging on my companions closet. I grabbed the sheet, ran outside, and left the sheet outside. Finally.. an hour of good sleep. The next day we bought a mouse trap and as shown in the picture, we caught it. Life moves on.
We taught a lot of investigators which is good, they are all progressing Yap speed so veeerrrryyyy slowly. We’ll see if we can come up with a way to help them improve quicker but still good. We are also working with quite a few less actives who I think will be the key to a strong branch because there are so many them. We’ll see if we can rekindle the faith and desire to follow Christ.
TOGEG GOT BAPTIZED!!! It was awesome! I don’t really take credit for it because the first time I met with him he committed to be baptized but everything was great! They don’t have many baptisms here so everyone was really skeptical if he was ready yet which was really annoying. But we met with him a couple times this week and when we met with him just hours before the baptism I felt a lot of peace that it was the right thing to do. He has Gout in one of his legs but he found a ride to his baptism and conformation the next day. I gave the talk on the Holy Ghost and made sure he got a healing blessing for his leg the next day. He is really happy and has an awesome spirit.
Church was good, as usual. I am giving a talk in sacrament next week. At least they gave me a notice. Ha okay.. here’s where all Outer Darkness breaks loose (I’m a missionary, okay?) Sunday night we pick up our member presence which is Alvina (an RM) and Weyuch (Ward Mission Leader) and go out teaching. We teach this awesome less active lady! Then Sister Calder gets a call from Tracy (a girl in our ward who is not in our area) and she says she is drunk and is going to kill herself. BUT we had two appointments last night so I didn’t want to go. Like, serve the people in our area first, right? So we went to our next appointment and told them we couldn’t meet. Tracy calls again and Sister Calders freaking-outness increases so instead of going to drop off our members we go straight to Tracy. Which I’m also not happy about. We get there and Sister Calder runs to Tracy. About a minute later I don’t feel comfortable that I can’t hear what they are saying so I go and check it out. Tracy is clearly drunk and also chewing betelnut. Alvina comes out to see if everything is okay but Tracy is soo mad at Alvina for who-knows-why and some minutes later they are standing up yelling at each other grabbing eachother. I try to break them up but they are pushing me away. They are pretty big girls haha. Anyways I immediately feel the spirit leave and start bawling. Weirdest/worst experience of my life. I yell at Sister Calder that we need to leave because nothing good will come because the spirit isn’t with us. So I go sit in the car and cry, like a mature adult.. I hate crying. About 5 minutes later I go back out to get Alvina so that we can leave. There are like 3 random people who apparently Tracy knows who are all yelling. The Elders show up and we drive away. As a crazy old lady is trying to open my door and is yelling at us. Alvina is just crying really hard in the back saying, “I don’t know why she hates me!” So we meet the Elders at the church. We go inside and ask what happened, I sit there quietly. At the end they ask me if I’m okay and I start crying.. again. I knew the only way to get the spirit back was to get a priesthood blessing so Elder Becraft gave me a perfect one! He said that Heavenly Father is proud of me for serving a mission and he sent me to this island because He knew I was strong enough. This part was interesting, he said that Heavenly Father will bless me and answer my prayers in His time and in His way. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that means. Anyways, I feel good now everything is back to usual. Thanks for your prayers of safety, they definitely worked last night because that could have ended in a lot of ways where I would be in the hospital right now. I’m safe, I’m happy!
This part is for Grandpa: We flew a Boeing 727 from Guam to Yap on United Airlines. They have breadfruit on Chuuke but it’s not as common here. I am hold a yummy coconut, that’s why I look so happy! Locally there isn’t a lot honestly, they eat a lot of Taro and coconuts and whatever else they find in their yards like bananas. Some people have pigs and there a ton of stray chickens. No one here feeds us so they only food I eat is coconuts or food I make! And yes, you can buy eggs at the store.
I love and miss you all and am so grateful for your prayers and thoughts. Know that you are also always in mine. Happy 1 month to Katie and Thomas!
